The children in the mountain village could hardily believe the news... a FREE education was coming to El Crucero! No longer would children in this poor village be denied an education because their families didn't have the two or three dollars that had to be paid per child, per month for their children to attend school. This was some of the best news they had ever heard in El Crucero. And, when the dust had all settled (from the flurry of building 14 new classrooms, a small auditorium and a gymnasium), over 550 children were enrolled in More Than Conquerors Institute (a number had to be turned away because of lack of space).
The Good News is - no longer will an education be out of their reach for these children, because now it's absolutely FREE! No longer will these children be held back because they have "no skills" to offer in the marketplace. But most importantly, these children are learning about a Saviour who loves them so much that He gave His life for them. Not only that, but how He has a beautiful plan for each of their lives! Now, "nothing" will be able to hold them back!
Every school morning, beginning as early as 6 a.m., after a very small or no breakfast, MTCI students who live in El Crucero area (and as far a way as 12 miles), begin making their way to More Than Conqueror's Institute. Some of these children walk a considerable distance on dusty or muddy roads (depending on the season). Others live too far away and must take the bus or ride their bicycles. Many mothers walk their little ones to school. A handful of the more fortunate children whose families have a bicycle ride on the handle bars or back seats while their fathers peddle them to school. Probably the most unusual mode of transportation is utilized by two brothers, who live about three miles from our school. They ride a horse to school. Knowing that having an education is one of the greatest factors in helping people to overcome poverty, New Hope "pulls out all the stops" in making a FREE education available to as many children as possible. At New Hope we believe this is not the end but, the beginning of... THE SAVING OF A GENERATION! Click here to see class pictures
